Research & Development Profile
     Artificial Intelligence
     and Knowledge Based Systems

Among the different fields of research in computer science, Artificial Intelligence offers some of the highest potential for innovation. In many areas like medicine, environment, banking and finance, production technologies, logistics, office applications, web services, AI technologies significantly improve the usability and productivity of software applications.
The artificial intelligence and knowledge-based systems group at the Mihailo Pupin Institute combines a range of research areas concerned with designing computer systems that exhibit some degree of intelligent behaviour. Research work is undertaken in:

  •  Knowledge representation
  •  Multiparadigm inference
  •  Logic programming
  •  Truth maintenance
  •  Machine learning
  •  Natural language processing
  •  Semantic Web
  •  Blackboard architecture
  •  Multi-agent systems
  •  Decision support systems etc

Much of the group's research lies in the intersections of these areas and is concerned with both theoretical principles and their application to real-world domains. The principal goal of the group is to develop high-impact practical applications in areas such as intelligent information systems, decision making, intelligent manufacturing, ecology and economy.
