Svemir Popić
received the Dipl. Ing. degree in mechanical engineering at the
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in
Sarajevo
in 1979. Also, he has completed specialization in welding at the Faculty of
Civil Engineering in Sarajevo.
From 1979 to 1983 he was involved with the designing and manufacturing of
steel constructions, especially with welding. From 1983 to 1988 he has
worked at Energoinvest Sarajevo, Institute for Research and Development of
Automation and Computing Science, where he was involved in research,
development and testing a series of the electromechanical actuators for
nuclear power plants for SSSR. From 1988 to 1992 he has worked at UNIS
Institute, Sarajevo, where he designed robots, gripers,
transport systems and flexible cells. A few years he was professor at
technical school and assistant at Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Sarajevo. Since 1992 he is working at Robotics
Laboratory of Mihajlo Pupin Institute, Belgrade, dealing with the design of
industrial robots, education robots, special purposes robots as well as
robotics devices for rehabilitation, especially with active - motorized
above knee prosthesis and hand orthosis. Robot design and AutoCad he
specialized in the frame of common project at ESI Inc. Toronto from 1998 to
1999. Also in the period 2001 – 02 at Fraunhofer Institute, Berlin, he designed the special type of
parallel robot for rehabilitation and measurement of angles and torques of
human legs especially for knee joint.
