Power Line Carrier Systems

Power Line Carrier communications are used for safe and efficient operation of high-voltage power networks and allow for the transmission of tele-protection signals, speech and SCADA data.

With over 30 years in Power Line Carrier communications, Institute Mihailo Pupin leverages expertise in sophisticated transmission techniques over high-voltage power lines. The proof of our PLC equipment's highest quality is the fact that our PLC devices form a basis of Serbian Power Utility telecommunicational system with over 400 devices installed.

Our narrow-band solution provides transmission over a long distance operating range (up to 500km) without the need for repeaters. Equipment operates in power line voltage range from 10 kV to 400 kV, and employs for transmission SSB modulation with carrier in 24-500 kHz frequency range. IMP’s PLC solution complies with recommendations of CIGRE, IEC and ITU-T and with electromagnetic safety capability regulations of the European Community.

At the moment we are finishing development of the digital version of PLC equipment, which additionally permits transmission of multiple voice and data services in limited PLC frequency range and offer various add-value services for the users. Advanced multicarrier modulation and digital signal processing techniques are implemented to withstand electromagnetic disturbances specific to the high-voltage power lines.
