At the
ceremony held in Chinese Embassy in Belgrade on July 12, Academician
Miomir Vukobratovic, Director of the Robotics Department of the
Mihailo Pupin Institute received the Foreign Member Diploma of Chinese
Academy of Engineering for his results and contribution to the world’s
robotics, especially for invention of the Zero Moment Point - ZMP
method. This method, developed some 40 years ago, represents the
result of research work of Professor Vukobratovic and his close
associates. It enables humanoid robots to walk. Namely, maintaining
the dynamic balance while walking can not be achieved without application
of theoretical principles established by this method which was,
for the first time introduced in 1968. Professor Vukobratovic and
the Belgrade School of Robotics have become recognized for the ZMP
method in the scientific circles across the world. Since than Professor
Vukobratovic continued his research in robotics and has published
numerous scientific papers becoming one of the most citationed scientists
in the field of robotics and probably in the field of technical
sciences as well.
Academician Vukobratovic is the only scientist in
ex Yugoslavia who has been honored by becoming the foreign member
of this, world’s biggest Academy of Engineering.
